Accumulator:
A series
of bets on multiple outcomes, all outcomes must be successful for the
Punter to win the bet.
Ante Post:
A bet
which is placed on an event in the future. If the selection does not take
part in the contest, the Punter loses the stake.
Asian
Handicap:
Asian
Handicap is a type of betting that removes the chances of a draw by
balancing the teams. Teams may be awarded between a fraction of a goal
start to 3 goals, dependent on their current form/strength.
Backed:
If a
bookmaker takes a lot of money on one particular team/individual, the team
is said to be heavily backed. Then the bookmaker generaly reduces the
odds.
Banker:
A bettor's strong selection. A "banker" is an almost guaranteed winner,
also known as a lock
Bet:
To lay money on the correct prediction of an outcome.
Bookmaker:The
individual/group that accepts a bet. Also known as a bookie.
Canadian
(sometimes known as a Super Yankee):
Five
outcomes with all doubles, trebles, fourfolds, fivefolds covered.
(10 doubles, 10 trebles, 5 fourfolds, and a fivefold. 26 bets in total.)
Circled Game:
Applies to US sports. A game where the betting activity is limited by the
bookmaker; this usually happens where bad weather or injury may
significanlty alter the chances of either team winning, thereby making the
outcome far more uncertain.
Correct
Scores:
A bet that
predicts the final score of the match during normal time.
Doubles:
An
accumulator which involves two selections. Both must be successful for the
bet to win.
Draw:
The U.K. and Australian name for a tie.
Drift:
When the
price of one outcome gets longer, usually because the bookmaker has had
little or no interest in it.
Favorite:
The team or individual the bookies rate most likely to win the contest
they are betting on.
First
Goalscorer:
A bet
placed on a player to score the first goal in the event.
Fold:
Represents
the number of selections in an accumulator.
Handicap:
A term usually associated with International sports. The handicap is the
advantage given to the weak team, and the disadvantage given to the
favourite, in order to even up the possible outcome of the event and give
the bet more value. Known as the Spread in US sports.
Half time
Result:
A
bet that involves the Punter correctly predicting the result of a match at
half time.
Hedging:
This
involves placing a bet on opposing outcome to the punters original
selected outcome in order to guarantee winnings or cut losses.
Lay:
When a
bookmaker accept bets it is often said that they lay a bet. A bookmaker
will often be known as a layor.
Lengthen:
When
a bookmaker sees little activity on a particular outcome, they may choose
to lengthen or increase the odds available.
Lock:
US term
for an almost guaranteed winner.
Lucky 15:
A Lucky 15
is 15 bets involving 4 selections in different events, i.e. 4 singles, 6
doubles, 4 trebles, and 1 fourfold. The bookmaker will often pay a bonus
if you get all 4 selections correct, or if you only get one correct.
Lucky 31:
A Lucky 31
is 31 bets involving 5 selections in different events, i.e. 5 singles, 10
doubles, 10 trebles, 5 four-folds plus 1 five-fold. The bookmaker will
often pay a bonus if you get all 5 selections correct, or if you only get
one correct.

A

Spread:
An index
spread based on the number of runs, goals and points scored in an event.
Odds:
Also
referred to as the price. The returns a bookmaker offers for a selection
to win.
Odds On:
Refers to
a price where the odds is less than evens (fractional) or 2 (decimal).

Refers to
a price where the odds is greater than evens (fractional) or 2 (decimal).
Outsider:
The
opposite of favourite.
Parlay:
The
US term for an accumulator.
Punter:
The term
used for individual who puts on a bet.
Singles:

simplest bet form. Only one outcome is bet on.

Yankee:
Same as
Canadian.
